We at IHLS are dedicated to our mission of "Improving health care today ... for all our tomorrows." We fulfill our mission by focusing on the four pillars of Institute: research, advocacy, community service, and education. Through activities in each of these areas, we hope to improve the health of the society around us.

Our values are simple. We believe that access to safe and affordable healthcare is a fundamental right. People are empowered to thrive in their communities through legal and medical information provided in a manner sensitive to their culture, background, and beliefs. Excellence is the standard of achievement for all our activities. In partnership with the community, healthcare solutions meeting the needs of our diverse populations can be attained. All citizens of society deserve to be treated with respect, to have their voices heard, and to fully participate in their healthcare decisionmaking. Service to the community is one of life's highest callings, and requires dedication and personal responsibility. Solutions to healthcare and social problems must be interdisciplinary and involve the community since these problems do not confine themselves to a single academic discipline or cultural group.
